Hoax warning confuses motorists

MUSCAT — In what is construed as yet another prank message on social media networks, a hoax message being circulated since yesterday baffled and at the same time petrified the motorists for several hours.
The message, ostensibly from the Oman Oil urges motorists not to fill their petrol tanks full as it can cause fire due to the rising temperature outside.
“Warning from Oman oil!!! Due to increase in temperature in the next days, please don’t fill petrol to the max. It will cause an explosion in the fuel tank. If you want petrol, then fill to half and leave a space for air.”
This message originated from an anonymous source claims that there have been nearly five explosions in the past one week due to the full tanks.
The Royal Oman Police, represented by the PACDA (Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance), has denied such a message calling it unfounded and questioned its scientific basis. “The message being circulated on the popular instant chatting network is baseless,” the PACDA said on its Twitter page.

Wadi Dayqah water to be tapped

1st phase of project to bring water to Muscat Governorate under way -

MUSCAT — The first phase of an ambitious plan to tap the prodigious potable water potential of Wadi Dayqah reservoir to supply Muscat Governorate will shortly get under way, according to officials of the Public Authority for Electricity and Water (PAEW), which is overseeing the implementation of the long-awaited project.
Cairo-based Egyptian Contractors and Partners LLC, a subsidiary of the state owned National Construction and Development Company, has been awarded a contract to build a major water transmission line that will supply treated water from the Dayqah Dam in Qurayat Wilayat to Deem Reservoir in Al Amerat Wilayat.
The contract, valued at RO 32.222 million, represents the first stage of the Wadi Dayqah Water Treatment and Conveyancing Project that includes a major water treatment plant, as well as pipeline infrastructure that will supply potable water for irrigation and domestic use to consumers in Muscat Governorate.
Significantly, the project is unique in that it marks the first time that rainwater and runoff stored in a surface reservoir is being treated and pumped into the water grid in the Sultanate.  Previous efforts at utilising stored surface water for potable use have essentially been small-scale.
Of the Wadi Dayqah reservoir’s maximum storage capacity of around 100 million cubic metres, the expected yearly yield is expected to be around 35 million cubic metres, say officials. While around 15 million cubic metres per year of this volume will be allocated for domestic and irrigation water supplies in Qurayat Wilayat, the balance 20 million cubic metres per year will be utilised to augment potable water supply to the capital area, it is pointed out.
Egyptian Contractors and Partners (previously known as Mokhtar Ibrahim) is currently mobilising equipment and workers to build a roughly 50 km transmission pipeline that will carry treated water from a water treatment plant planned to be built not far from Wadi Dayqah Dam to Deem Reservoir. Also as part of its contract, the company will build a 10,000 cubic metre capacity reservoir and a pumping station.
Separately, nine companies are competing for a contract to build the main water treatment plant that forms the centrepiece of the Wadi Dayqah Dam Water Treatment and Conveyancing Project.  Estimated to cost around RO 50 million, the 125,000 cubic metre/day capacity plant is proposed to be built at a site near Mazara, some 3 km from the dam.
In the fray for the contract are Consolidated Contractors Company, Galfar Engineering, Larsen and Toubro (Oman), Towell Infrastructure, SMC Infra, Al Hassan Engineering, Oman National Engineering, Arabian Industries, and Target LLC. A contract award is likely to be announced soon.

Oman Sail takes part in ArMen race, women’s team set for GP test

MUSCAT — Oman Sail’s MOD70 trimaran, Musandam-Oman Sail, supported by the Ministry of Tourism, is racing the French fleet at the ArMen Race in Trinite-sur-Mer, while the all-women team onboard the J80 are racing at the 13th edition of the Grand Prix Ecole Navale in Finisterre.
In just three years, the ArMen Race has become a must-do event for professional and amateur sailors alike and the fleet attracts Ultimes, IMOCAs, Multi50s, Class40s, Minis, IRC boats and many more to the 450nm racecourse. With a record 170 crews racing the 4th edition, this event, known as the ‘Breton Fastnet’, is a unique challenge for the MOD70 crew and part of the ongoing learning curve for the Omani sailors onboard.
“We love this event, it is very good for the team and also for our sponsor, offering the Sultanate of Oman good exposure in France – being very intense, it is closely followed by enthusiasts. Weaving between the islands that are scattered along the course will be excellent training for us all, but especially for our three Omani team-mates,” said skipper Sidney Gavignet who is racing his third ArMen Race for Oman Sail.
“Fahad al Hasni, Ali al Balushi and Mohammed al Mujaini will all be onboard the M34 for the Tour de France a la Voile, so this is an important teaching and training opportunity for us. It is not so much about performance, although with another Multi 70 on the start line there is always the temptation!” he said.
His colleague Ali al Balushi is enjoying the intensity of the training and racing this season, which has been split between the M34 and the MOD70. “Mohammed and I have been working hard to get up to speed with the MOD70 and have been leaning on Fahad quite a lot as he has a few years of MOD experience already behind him.
“We are making progress every day and are keen to measure ourselves against another Multi 70 this weekend. Working on both the M34 and the MOD programmes has accelerated our learning which is very satisfying.”
The Oman Sail J80 women’s team were also racing this weekend in a whopping fleet of 190 boats a little further around the coast in Finisterre at the Grand Prix de l’Ecole Navale. The all-women crew includes Rajaa al Owaisi, Ibtisam al Salmi and Nashwa al Kindi, guided by British Olympic sailor Mary Rook, and aim to continue working on and improving boat handling while getting to grips with the rules of engagement. Ibtisam al Salmi who is the trimmer onboard is keen to learn more about the rules this week and to start putting into practice their learning. “We sailed a lot back in Oman after Spi Ouest to stay fresh and keep learning, also to improve our fitness levels and work on our strategy and the rules. We are feeling more confident little by little.”
After the GP Ecole Navale, the J80 will head to Normandy Sailing Week (June 9-15) before focussing on final preparations for the J80 Europeans in Barcelona at the end of the month (June27-July 4). The MOD70, Musandam-Oman Sail, will head to Kiel for the famous celebration of sail, Kieler Woche (June 21-29), where the beauty of the Sultanate will be on display at the tourism exhibition in the race village. With 2,000 boats, 5,000 sailors and 3 million visitors expected, Kiel Week is an important stop over for the Sultanate of Oman’s flagship campaign that is promoting the country as a high-end tourist destination in its key markets around Europe this summer.

القارب العُماني «مسندم» يخوض سباقات «آرمن» الفرنسية والطاقم النسائي يختتم تحدي «جراند بريكس نافال»

ضمن برنامج عُمان للإبحار الصيفي للمشاركات الدولية في أوروبا -
تخوض الطواقم العُمانية منافسات جديدة ممثّلة في القارب العُماني «مسندم» المدعوم من قبل وزارة السياحة والذي يخوض سباقات «آرمن ترينيتي سو مي» الفرنسية خلال الفتره من ٣٠ مايو الماضي إلى ١ يونيو الجاري، بينما اختتم الطاقم النسائي منافسات النسخة الثالثة عشرة من سباق «جراند بريكس نافال» على متن قارب الجي 80 التي احتضنتها مدينة فرينستيري الفرنسية من٢٨-٣١ مايو المنصرم. ويعد سباق آرمن أحد السباقات الفرنسية التي استطاعت استقطاب البحّارة من شتى أرجاء العالم وأوروبا بعد ثلاث سنوات من انطلاقته لأول مرة، حيث يتم إجراء منافسات بين 170 مشاركا في مضمار تصل مساحته 450 ميلا بحريا بين فئات عديدة من القوارب منها ألتيميس وآي ام أو سي أيه، والإم 50، وكلاس 40 والمينيز والآي أل سي. 

هذا وتتكّون الطواقم المبحرة من بحارة عمانيين ينضم إليهم مجموعة من البحّارة الأوروبيين منهم سيدني جافنييه الذي سيقود قارب مسندم إلى جانب البحارة محمد المجيني وعلي البلوشي وفهد الحسني، وأشار جافنييه إلى أن سباق آرمن هو أحد السباقات المفضّلة التي ستتيح حتما للبحارة العُمانيين فرصة لاكتساب الكثير من المهارات كما أنها أيضا تفتح مجالا كبيرا للتعريف بالسلطنة للجماهير الفرنسية. ويضم مسار السباق المرور على الكثير من التحدّيات بين الجزر المتوزّعة في عرض البحر ما سيكون محورا جيدا ومهما لتعلّم كيفية السيطرة على القوارب والمحافظة على سرعتها. وأمام كل من محمد المجيني وعلي البلوشي وفهد الحسني تحد قادم أكبر وهو المشاركة في الطواف الفرنسي ما يجعل من هذه السباقات عتبة مهمة للاستعداد والتأهب للطواف الفرنسي خصوصا على متن قارب مسندم – المود 70 متعدد البدن. ومنذ أن استهلّت عُمان للإبحار هذا الصيف برنامج المشاركات الدولية، تسنّى للبحّارة المشاركة في فئات متعدّدة من القوارب أهمّها المود 70 الذي أتاح لمحمد المجيني على وجه الخصوص الاستفادة من تقنيات السيطرة على القارب الضخم وتعلّم الجديد يوما بعد يوم. وتشير توقّعات الطقس الى أن الأجواء ستكون مواتية جدا خلال اليوم وغدا.
أما الفريق النسائي فقد اختتم مشاركته ضد 190 قاربا، ويشمل الفريق كلا من رجاء العويسية وابتسام السالمية ونشوى الكندية، إضافة إلى البطلة الأولمبية البريطانية ماري روك التي قادت القارب واشرفت على مساره بشكل عام. وأعربت السالمية أن التدريب الذي خضع له الطاقم في السلطنة قبل أسابيع قليلة إضافة إلى المشاركة في سباق «سبي ويست» الفرنسي هي خطوات مهمة وعملية هدفت إلى زيادة مستوى اللياقة وتعزيز الروح الجماعية والثقة المتبادلة بين أفراد الطاقم وإكساب الفريق قدرا أكبر من القوة والمهارة في كيفية التحكّم بالقارب.
هذا وبعد سباق «نافال» الفرنسي، أمام الفريق النسائي التوجّه للمشاركة في سباقات أسبوع نورماندي في الفترة من 9 الى 15 يونيو الجاري على متن قوارب الجي80، قبل التأهب للمشاركة في برشلونة في نهاية الشهر ذاته. أما أفراد طاقم مسندم من فئة المود 70 فسيتجه في الفترة من 21 الى 29 يونيو إلى احتفالية ومهرجان «أسبوع كيل» المهمة في عالم الإبحار، والتي سيقام على هامشها معرض ترويجي مهم للسلطنة في قرية السباق تنظّمه عُمان للإبحار بالتعاون مع وزارة السياحة العُمانية. ويشارك في المهرجان 2000 قارب شراعي و5000 بحار وما يقارب من ثلاثة ملايين زائر، ما يجعل من المهرجان فرصة ترويجية سياحية واستثمارية مهمة يجدر الاستفادة منها للترويج للسلطنة في السوق الأوروبية كوجهة صاعدة للاستثمار والسياحة والاقتصاد في ظل ما تشهده من ازدهار تنموي في مختلف الأصعدة.

فلج الحمراء ثروة مائية منذ مئات السنين

تعتبر الأفلاج في السلطنة جزءا من الحياة الاجتماعية القديمة التي أقدم عليها العمانيون في ابتكار شق قنوات لري المزروعات.
وفلج الحمراء أحد أفلاج السلطنة من الثروات المائية التي تتميز بها ولاية الحمراء والمحافظة على هذه الثروة ضرورية، باعتبار المياه شريان الحياة والاعتماد عليه في مصادر مياه الشرب وقد تم شقه في زمن اليعاربة، وهو التاريخ  نفسه الذي تأسست فيه بلدة حمراء العبريين.
وفلج الحمراء يتميز بتدفق المياه طوال أيام العام نتيجة خصوبة الأرض والمخزون الجوفي من المياه ويروي الفلج بساتين ومزارع الولاية من النخيل بجميع أنواعها ومزروعات وحمضيات وأعلاف الحيوانات كالبرسيم والحشائش وغيرها، ويعتبر المصدر الرئيسي لري هذه المزروعات جميعها.

بدء حصاد المشمش والخوخ والرمان والجوز والورد والبوت والعنب والزيتون بجبل شمس

محاصيل صيفية مثمرة بالولاية -

يشتهر جبل شمس بولاية الحمراء بزراعة أنواع عديدة من الفواكه مثل المشمش والخوخ والرمان والجوز والورد والبوت والعنب والزيتون وذلك لما يتميز به جبل شمس من طقس جميل تعتدل فيه درجات الحرارة في فصل الصيف وشديد البرودة في فصل الشتاء.
حيث يشهد جبل شمس والقرى التابع له مثل دار العقور ومسفاة الخواطر والمارات في هذه الأيام بقطف ثمار المشمش ومن المعروف بسرعة نضج هذه الثمرة ولا يتعدى أسبوعين من وقت النضج وحتى حصادها نظرا لتأثرها بالحرارة وقد تم تسويق كميات كبيرة من المشمش إلى الأسواق بعد جهد جهيد بذل في جني هذا المحصول الصغير الحجم وقد يصل سعر الكيلو الواحد للمشمش ثلاثة ريالات. كما يتميز جبل شمس بنمو الكثير من الأشجار البرية المختلفة مثل شجرة البوت وهي ذات الحبات الصغيرة التي تتخذ لونا أسود وتعتبر هذه الشجرة من الأشجار التي يتم جنيها مثل جني الرطب وتتميز بحلاوة طعمها.
كما تعد هذه الفترة للقانطين في الجبل والقرى التابع لها موسم جني المحاصيل الصيفية المثمرة تباعا حسب وقت القطف مثل الجوز والعنب والخوخ والرمان والزيتون.

قرش الحوت على شواطئ كمزار

بخاء ـــ أحمد بن خليفة الشحي -تفاجأ المواطنون بمنطقة كمزار البحرية بوجود سمكة قرش الحوت وذلك على شاطئ (دورصني) ويطلق عليها محليا بمنطقة كمزار (الكور) وهي من اكبر أنواع اسماك القرش التي تعيش في البحار والمحيطات الاستوائية وبالرغم من ضخامة حجمها إلا أنها تتغذى على العوالق والنباتات والأسماك الصغيرة.
