New lanes to and from Ruwi and Darsait to ease traffic woes
By Lakshmi Kathaneth — MUSCAT — Commuters to and from Ruwi and also Darsait need not dread the experience anymore. The introduction of a new lane on the Darsait-Qurum flyover, making it a three-lane track, is all set to ease traffic woes on this perennially congested route. While the construction and road extension work continues, the opening of the road at the Darsait flyover has succeeded in removing the usual bottlenecks usually experienced at peak hours. Commuters from Qurum onwards, who often used to hesitate to head to Ruwi owing to the usual bottlenecks, have now the option of a new lane that takes them downtown. The route coming from Qurum to Darsait has now separate lanes to Ruwi, Wadi Kabir and Sultan Qaboos Port and of course to the Muttrah sea front.
The Darsait area hosts a number of schools and offices and the ensuing traffic during peak hours, which included early mornings, late afternoons, evenings as well nights, used to be a nightmare for commuters, and especially the residents of the area. But, the new lane openings in the areas mentioned have little impact on the road leading to Al Burj traffic light junction, which controls the flow of cars to the Ruwi church and temple. These particular areas experience heavy traffic on certain days of the week. Commuting from Qurum, turning right at the Darsait flyover, is also a convenient way to reach Central and Middle Business Districts in Ruwi.
