OFA awards ceremony today


MUSCAT — The Oman Football Association (OFA) is all set to hold it’s annual awards function today at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The awards function celebrates the season gone past and recognises the achievements and contribution of various entities and individuals to the cause of Oman football. The award ceremony will ‘kick-off’ at 7.30 pm in the evening and will recognise a wide spectrum of achievements in the sport over the past year. The platform will also be used to recognise, thank and appreciate the various supporters of the OFA from the civil bodies who have supported them, the sponsors and the media for all it’s activities over the season.
A token of appreciation will be given to all journalists, radio jockeys, club football and media coordinators with there also being special recognition for the best press, journalist and television programme, all done as measure of gratitude for their support over the past season. The Omantel Professional League, First Division and Second division will see recognition for the top 3 teams in each league, fair play, top scorer, best coach, best manager, best player and best goalkeeper. The youth leagues of U-16, U-19 and U-22 football will also see the best coach and top scorer recognised over the course of the night.
International and national referees across the leagues will be recognised with two awards — the best referee and the best assistant referee. There will also be special awards for excellence over the season with certain clubs being recognised for their extraordinary efforts and achievements in certain facets of the game. “We have come to end of yet another wonderful season and it is important to recognise the hard work and significant efforts of all those involved in making it a success, the awards night is one of gratitude and we ensure we extend it to all our supporters and well wishers” said Sayyid Khalid bin Hamad bin Hamood al Busaidi, Chairman of the OFA.
